When Hex in High Heels by Linda Wisdom appeared in my mailbox I was shocked. I hadn’t been asked to review it, I hadn’t won it and I hadn’t purchased it. Like the theme of the book, it magically appeared. Having read many non-fiction and heavier books, I decided, what the heck, I’ll give this fluff a try. I was pleasantly surprised by how engrossing and entertaining it was. The story is about a vintage shop owner, who also happens to be a witch, Blair and her lust for Jake, who as it turns out is a were-collie. A were-collie, now that’s new one, but that wasn’t what surprised me. The book is very well written and the plot is engaging. Wisdom has not only assembled an eclectic cast of characters, she also gives the reader romance, action, sibling rivalry, mystery, suspense, all with a healthy dose of humor. This is a quick read that will titillate your senses. 4.5 out of five stars.
This book was provided by a mystery source. I don’t know who you are, but I thank you.

Book Review - Hidden Currents by Christine Feehan
There is a reason Christine Feehan is one of my favorite authors. Her stories grab you from the beginning and don't let you go until the last page is turned. Once again she has hit a home run with Hidden Currents, the latest in the Drake Sisters saga. No author can bring a reader into the folds of a family like Feehan can, and her latest Drake story doesn't disappoint. It is a rare author who can create an extremely complex fictional family that leaves you longing to be a part of it. Her stories aren't just filled with action, international intrigue, psychic phenomena, but they are filled with loyalty, compassion, sisterhood, love of family and dedication. In today's world of disfuctional families and lifestyles, the Drakes in Feehan's novels are refreshing and a throw back to a time where family were close and came above all else.
Hidden Currents is the story of Elle, the youngest of the seven Drake sisters. As an undercover agent trying to get the goods on the head of a human trafficing ring, Elle finds herself the object of his obsession. When she goes missing and is presumed dead, it is up to Jackson, a man with his own tormented past, her sisters and the community that loves them, to rescue her. In this novel we get to see just how close knit this small southern Californian community is. Jackson, will reach across the miles through their telepathic connection to give her hope and find her before it's too late. He will bring together a team of highly trained operatives to travel half-way around the world to attempt a rescue as her sisters command the elements to aid them. Her sisters will feed their own powers into maiintaining a link to her. The small town of Safe Haven will band together and risk their lives to stand behind this family.
Feehan masterfully takes you inside the tormented minds of former POW, Jackson and kidnap/human trafficing victim, Elle. She shows you the struggle they face to not lose their identity in the face of endless torture. Feehan gives you glimpses of the psychological toll it takes on those who love them. You feel the push and pull of the relationships as they cope to survive. Only Feehan gives you such gripping action and wraps it up with a heart warming yellow ribbon. When an evil man whose wealth and power knows no bounds tries to destroy the Drakes and claim Elle for his own, it will take everyone coming together to save Elle, her sisters and their community.
I read this non-stop, over 400 page novel in a day. If this were a film, the audience would be on the edge of their seat. Truly Feehan at her best!

Book Review - Burning Wild by Christine Feehan
Christina Feehan is one of my favorite authors. She has several great paranormal series (the Drake sisters, the Carpathians, the Ghost Walkers, the Leopard). I have all her books and I look forward to each new title she puts out. Her books grab your attention from the start, making it nearly impossible to put down until you reach the end, and of course then you are left waiting for the next one. Her story lines are addicting. That being said, Burning Wild, left me disappointed. It is a book of the leopard series. The leopard books are stories about shape-shifters and those who carry the leopard bloodline even if they can't transform into a leopard. Burning Wild centers around Jake. We learn of his tragic and cruel upbringing at the hands of parents who only sired him for his genes. This lack of love and compassion turns him into a ruthless and seemingly emotionless business man. Jake trust no one. Feehan does an excellent job of showing that Jake has many sides, although he is unaware of his gentler side. He often takes in strays, so to speak. People that society has dumped on and tried to forget, those who haven't gotten a break in life. Jake is surrounded by these broken souls and is fiercely protective of them, all the while claiming to feel nothing for no one. Along comes pregnant Emma, whom he rescues from a car accident, also involving his newborn son. He is drawn to her and she sees the good in him that he tries to hide.
For me, it was a disappointment because I am used to being enthralled by Feehan's complex stories and characters. Although she gives us very detailed background on the characters in Burning Wild they still lacked dimension. Reading this book I felt like I had picked up an old Dynasty (1980's evening soap) script with shape shifters. Knowing and loving Feehan's other work this was a let down. The book was entertaining; it's just not what I have come to expect from this author.
